TECHNICAL COLOR & SAMPLE SPECIALIST

Domingue Architectural Finishes represents one of the most comprehensive collections of architectural lime plasters, mineral paints, and artisanal wall and floor finishes available today. Our work is specified in high-end residential, hospitality, and architectural projects across the U.S. and internationally. We are seeking a technically curious and artistically trained individual to join our Houston-based technical team. This role is rooted in material exploration, pigment development, and bespoke sample production — while also serving as a technical bridge between our workshop, sales team, and clients. The position is workshop-based, working directly with mixers, pigments, lime plasters, and mineral systems under the direction of our Technical Director. Approximately 50% of the role involves internal and client-facing communication — providing technical guidance, troubleshooting orders, supporting application processes, and collaborating closely with the sales team. This is both a material and communication role. The right candidate must be comfortable in both environments.

What This Role Requires: This is not simply a production position. It requires aesthetic sensitivity, technical discipline, and clear communication. The candidate must be willing to learn our products in full — from raw pigment behavior to finish performance on walls and floors. A strong foundation in plastic arts, painting, sculpture, or experimental material practice is essential. Understanding color as both science and art is fundamental. This individual will actively support bespoke projects, solve technical challenges, and help elevate our custom capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop bespoke samples, color matches, and custom formulations

  • Work hands-on in the workshop with pigments, mixers, lime plasters, and mineral systems

  • Maintain and organize formula libraries and color documentation

  • Assist in pigment experimentation and finish refinement

  • Provide technical guidance to clients and the sales team via email and direct communication

  • Support troubleshooting for application processes and order-related questions

  • Interpret client requests and translate them into accurate technical execution

  • Collaborate closely with sales to ensure bespoke orders are properly understood and fulfilled

  • Prepare presentation-quality samples for designers and architects

  • Maintain sample inventory and ensure consistency across production

  • Continuously train under the Technical Director to deepen product expertise

  • Proactively communicate across departments to ensure clarity and efficiency

Qualifications:

  • Background in plastic arts, fine arts, painting, sculpture, or experimental material disciplines (required)

  • Strong knowledge of color theory and pigment behavior (required)

  • Experience working with paint systems, plasters, lime-based materials, or architectural coatings is a strong plus

  • Comfortable working in a hands-on workshop environment

  • Able to communicate technical information clearly and professionally

  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation and organizational skills

  • Aesthetic sensitivity and appreciation for artisanal finishes

  • Ability to balance creative experimentation with structured execution

  • Team-oriented, proactive, and solution-driven

  • Based in Houston, Texas
